Year of Beer Paintings – Day 69

The daily beer painting is of Obsidian Stout from Deschutes Brewery.  Deschutes was conceived by Gary Fish, owner and operator, in 1988 in downtown Bend, Oregon, only one year after I moved to Alaska.  The first year, the brewery only produced 330 barrels of beer.  As of 2012, it is the fifth largest craft brewery, and the twelfth largest brewery in the nation.  I might mention that all Deschutes products are vegan and non GMO.

Obsidian Stout is as black as the lava rock it is named for.  It is a bold rich brew, with flavors of coffee, chocolate, roasted barley, black barley, and some hop bitterness as well.  It has a world class beer ranking of 94% approval on Beer Advocate.  Anything over 90% is an amazing rating.  It is also an award-winning beer, taking many awards just last year including World’s Best Stout at the World Beer Awards!  This has been one of my favorites ever since I tasted my first drop!

To the little Bend brewery growing into a mega, popular, world-famous producer of great beers!  I hop everybody has a chance to taste the best stout in the world!

The original oil painting sold.  You can purchase a limited-edition print at my Etsy Shop.
