It’s Christmas in July! The featured beer painting of the day is of CoHoHo Imperial IPA by Midnight Sun Brewing Co. MSBC likes fish-themed IPAs. Sockeye Red is the flagship beer of Midnight Sun and was the first beer the brewery released in cans. CoHoHo is the winter seasonal. The Coho salmon, or silver salmon come in right about this time of year until August. If you add an extra “ho” to Coho, it becomes a catchphrase for an amazing beer.
CoHoHo has a complex flavor and aroma. It is not too bitter, but has enough hops to bite your tongue. The juniper berries are overwhelmed by the sugar and hops in the brew but add to the aroma and blend well with the overall product. As I mentioned yesterday, I miss winter, and whenever I drink a CoHoHo, I remember the X-mas of 2006 when I had a 5-gallon keg of this beer and 5 gallons of the Grand Cru from Sleeping Lady Brewing Co. on draft in my fridge at home. Both beers drink easily, but both have a mad kick to them. Anyway, to say the least, a few goblets were accidentally smashed into my new hardwood flooring by my friends. Good Times! Let the CoHoHo flow and see what happens. If you haven’t cellared a few of these, pick them up in November and save them until next July! This IPA actually cellars just fine, bringing out more of a robust malt and slight cheesy flavor of the dissipating hops.
Have a great X-mas in July! Only 156 shopping days left until the big day in December! Cheers!
