Who’s the Top Dog of the Iditarod going to be this year? No one knows, but I hope that particular pup is treated to a grade A choice cut of prime meat! Iditarod dogs run 10 miles an hour for up to 20 hours a day. That means in one solid day they can almost travel 200 miles. The Iditarod dogsled race is 1,049 miles long, and we are at day 7 of the race today. Currently, Aliy Zirkle is pushing for an underdog victory, which would make her the next woman to win the race since Susan Butcher won in 1990. She is about to reach the Norton Sound, only five checkpoints from the finish line in Nome. All I know is I would crack open a bottle of Midnight Sun’s Hop Dog at the finish and celebrate like a rock star if I were the leader of the pack.
Okay, enough about the Iditarod, lets talk beer. Hop Dog is a serious Double Wheat IPA with some serious IBUs, enough hop flavor to satisfy any hop head’s hankering. The wheat makes this beer a full bodied IPA, not too malty and more of a hefe-like flavorful brew. Brewers from MSBC, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I notice Citra hops in this one. Nice orange and coriander-like fruitiness is the strongest flavor I could notice.
Keep your cool, and party like you just finished the Iditarod. If you are a hop-loving individual, Hop Dog is a brew not to be missed!
