Year of Beer Paintings – Day 275

The featured beer painting of the day is of 420 Extra Pale Ale by SweetWater Brewing Company in Altlanta, Georgia. This beer is perfect for hunting down a big fat rainbow trout. Not too weak, nor too strong, not too hopped up, yet not a malt bomb. A perfectly-balanced pale for sipping all day at your favorite fishing hole. The 420 is a reference to 4/20, the day this ale was conceived. This beer is so versatile, I’m sure it would be perfect with a big fat brownie.

When I go fishing I am not looking for rainbow trout, I try to grab as many Sockeye Red Salmon I can get during our annual fish harvest. I would have loved to be sucking down bottles of SweetWater 420 Extra Pale Ale in the river. However, I drank this beer in my condo, and noticed that I opened it just in time, before the 10/22 expiration date. I like seeing expiration dates on beer bottles, because that makes me think that the beer is fresh. Now, if only breweries were required to list ingredients on the label. Strange that all other beverages have to have a list of ingredients, but not beer.

Cheers to 420 Extra Pale Ale! A very good, even bodied, drinkable West-coast style pale ale. “Don’t float the mainstream!” Thank you, Alex, for sending me a couple bottles!

You can purchase this painting, or a limited-edition print at my Etsy shop.
