Year of Beer Paintings – Day 39

When I think of big bold beer, I think of Midnight Sun Brewing Company!  It is a pleasure to pull one of these Arctic Devil Barley Wine bottles out of my cellar, and pop open a 13 percent beer that has mellowed over a couple of years.  This painting is of a 2012 Arctic Devil, which is prime for drinking.  I have two others that I will save for a couple more years, or for a special occasion.  Believe me, I am not Dr. Fermento, the self proclaimed über beer geek in Alaska, stashing bottle after bottle of high end brew underneath his house in case of a second prohibition.  I will be purchasing another three bottles of Arctic Devil this year; one to sample this year, one for next year, and one that I will label “Do not drink until 2019.” Drink big! Drink boldly! Drink Arctic Devil Barley Wine!

You can purchase this painting, or a limited-edition print at my Etsy Shop.

Year of Beer Paintings – Day 33

Today’s Year of Beer portrait is of Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter from Midnight Sun Brewing Company in Anchorage, Alaska, brewed with coffee beans.  I painted this beer in my coffee mug made by a local artist Toni Maury.  Arctic Rhino is a staple in the bottled line of beer from Midnight Sun Brewing Company, and should not to be missed.  Another coffee brew available on draft only at the MSBC Loft is “I’ll Have Another”, which is a coffee stout.  It’s a collaboration beer by four Alaska breweries: Denali Brewing Company in Talkeetna, Haines Brewing Company, Kenai River Brewing Company, and MSBC.  Each brewery used the same recipe and the same ingredients, but the Sumatra coffee roast was done by different roasters.  The brewer at Denali Brewing Co. roasted the beans himself.  Not that I advocate drinking beer for breakfast, but if you are going to have a beer before 4 PM, have an Arctic Rhino.  It’s a great way to start a buzz (caffeine that is).

Cheers to my favorite brews, coffee and beer, married together in this delicious porter!

Year of Beer Paintings – Day 24

Today’s Year of Beer painting is of Snowshoe White Belgian Style Wit by Midnight Sun Brewing Company.  The can is shown in the snow in front of a pair of snowshoes, because, unless you are a hare, you will find that getting around in deep snow is tiresome.  If you don’t have any snowshoes, at least grab a Snowshoe White; it will ease the tension as you sink to your hips and wallow around in Alaska snow.  Lets hope for snow like that as we have been having weird winter meltdown in January.  All Alaskans fear rain in the middle of winter; it’s not aesthetically pleasing and increases danger on the roads, parking lots and trails due to super slippery freezing ground ice!  I love a good witbeir in a can.  Reminds me of a couple of favorites I was drinking while bike touring across Holland.  Maybe I can include some of them in this series if I can get my hands on them.

Year of Beer Paintings – Day 4

Yesterday was my art opening at the Loft at Midnight Sun Brewing Co. and I tried not to drink too much beer other than what I was going to paint for this Year of Beer project.  So in order to try to stay close to my original plan of only drinking the beers I paint I brought home a growler of what was in the firkin.  Well, this wasn’t the cask conditioned stuff we were drinking last night, but it is the same base brew, the XXX IPA, which is pretty stout for an IPA I might add.  The show was great last night and I thank everyone who came out!  I especially thank anyone who purchased an original piece of work.  I was glad to see everyone come out to support me on my opening night!  Cheers!

Year of Beer Paintings – Day 2

The second “Year of Beer” painting for January 2nd is Kodiak Brown Ale up on the side of Mt. Alyeska!  Beer just tastes better when you are skiing, or snowboarding.  Midnight Sun’s Kodiak Brown is a robust brown ale!  Tomorrow I will be hanging paintings at the MSBC Loft for my First Friday art opening, a beer-themed art show called A Toast to Our Mountains.  I am completely excited to be “Decking the Halls” at MSBC after hours.  Hope to see you on Friday from 5 – 8 PM.

The original painting sold. You can purchase a limited-edition print at my Etsy shop.

Year of Beer Paintings – Day 1

Wow!  2014 already…  2013 was a blast of a flash!  Over so fast it felt like a blink of my eye!  Happy New Year!  And cheers to 2014!  I hope your celebrations were merry but also gentle.  The very first “Year of Beer” painting is Sockeye Red IPA from Midnight Sun Brewing Company that is sitting on the top of Flat Top Mountain.  Sockeye Red is one of my favorite brews, I like it in the can, in the bottle, and especially on draft at the MSBC Loft.  I always love taking a second to pop in to the MSBC Loft when I am on the South side of Anchorage, and I often drink this beer there.  This January I will be showing my newest beer paintings at the Loft.  Whatever you do though, for your own safety, do not GRAB A 22 FROM MSBC’s LOFT AND CLIMB FLATTOP MOUNTAIN!!!

I hope your resolution was to have a lot of fun in 2014, because the Year of Beer is designed to inspire FUN!

THE ORIGINAL PAINTING SOLD. You can purchase a print at my Etsy Shop.
